We are one of the leading operators on the South Coast and our fleet of over 300 buses provides local and interurban services around Bournemouth, Poole, Salisbury and the surrounding countryside.
Wilts & Dorset is part of the Go-Ahead Group. Go-Ahead is a major provider of transport services across the UK, employing over 27,100 people.
Each year, over a billion journeys are made across the Group's companies. The Group’s operation spans bus and rail services, and are defined by a belief that local people make the best decisions about running local services. Each of Go-Ahead’s subsidiary companies is run as an autonomous business in tune with the local market.
Investment
Recently we have invested £2 million in upgrading the bus fleet operating between Poole/Bournemouth and the Isle of Purbeck, the biggest such investment since the routes were launched. The new buses are all fitted with CCTV and have a low-floor design that provides easy access for all, and many are to a permanent or convertible open top design, recognising the scenic nature of these routes. A further £3 million has been invested in new double deck vehicles operating key interurban routes from Salisbury.
Environment
As transport operators, we acknowledge that our vehicles do emit greenhouse gases, and we take our responsibility to reduce these emissions wherever possible very seriously.
Despite these emissions, bus travel is still considerably more efficient and environmentally friendly than travelling by private car. Our main responsibility is therefore to grow our passenger numbers, enabling people to travel around our region safely, conveniently, and with less congestion.
We have been investing in new buses fitted with top-rated Euro 4 and 5 engines, which give the best possible performance in terms of reducing emissions.
Part of the local community
Vibrant and successful communities are in everybody’s interest and we are proud to play an active part in the communities we serve. One example of this has been our pioneering programme to break down barriers to using buses for people with learning disabilities. We actively participate in local Chambers of Commerce, tourism bodies and many other organisations that help shape and develop local communities.
