Wilts & Dorset operate a fleet of around 270 buses across Dorset, Wiltshire and the New Forest.
Bournemouth & Poole
All of our routes in the Poole & Bournemouth area are usually run by low floor easy access buses.
The high frequency ‘more’ routes m1 & m2 from Poole to Bournemouth and Castlepoint/Southbourne are run with modern Volvo Eclipse and Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses with 2+1 seating, increased leg room and air conditioning.
Other local routes in the area use Mercedes-Benz Citaro, Optare Excel and Optare Solo single deck, along with Volvo B7 and Optare Spectra double deck buses on our longer distance routes.
Routes run on behalf of Bournemouth University use six brand new Scania Enviro 400 double deck buses and a Scania Solar single deck, along with a Mercedes-Benz Citaro bendy bus – the only vehicle of its type in use in the area.
Salisbury
Our core routes in Salisbury city are all run by low floor buses and the most frequent have recently been re-branded as Salisbury Reds – these use Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses on the key Red 1 route between Bemerton Heath and the District Hospital. All other Salisbury Reds and city routes are usually run with Dennis Dart MPDs.
Other routes from Salisbury use a mixture of Optare Solo, Optare Spectra and Volvo Olympian buses.
Purbeck Breezer
In 2009 Wilts & Dorset invested over £2 million in twelve brand new Scania double deck buses for the popular routes linking Bournemouth & Poole with the Isle of Purbeck and Swanage. Three of the these are permanently open top with a small enclosed area at the front for route 50, while three are closed top for route 40. The remaining six have removable roofs to enable them to be used as open toppers during the busy summer season on route 50.
Interurban
Our key interurban routes are normally operated by low floor easy access double deck vehicles. During 2008/2009 we invested around £3 million on brand new Scania Omnicity buses, these run on our X3 route between Bournemouth and Salisbury, activ8 between Salisbury and Andover, and between Salisbury, Pewsey, Marlborough and Swindon.
Modern Volvo B7 and Optare Spectra buses operate our X1 & X2 routes from Bournemouth to Lymington, along with the X8 from Poole to Blandford.
