things to do in Purbeck

Purbeck is the best of Dorset - fantastic views across the hills, the best bucket and spade beach at Swanage and the fantastic Corfe Castle. And the best way to see it is on the award winning Purbeck Breezers.

Route 50 starts its run off at Bournemouth Station, passes through the town centre and the Westcliff hotel district. Soon after the views just keep coming, Branksome Chine, Sandbanks, over the ferry to Studland, before dropping into Swanage and along the sea front to Swanage bus station. In summer we even by pass the queues at the ferry so it is also one of the quickest onto the Isle of Purbeck.

Of course, to get the best views most journeys on route 50 are run with open tops – so bring the sun lotion and hold on to your hat!

The inland route from Poole is the 40. After leaving Poole and passing through Wareham and Corfe Castle, the bus climbs up Kingston Hill giving the best views of the Purbeck Hills, before coming into Swanage.

A favourite day out is to do a full loop around Poole Harbour using the 50 from Bournemouth to Swanage, then on to the 40 to Poole and finish the loop by using the ultra-high frequency more route to back Bournemouth.

One of the questions we get asked the most is ‘can English National Concessionary Passes be used on Purbeck Breezer?’ And answer is Yes – except before 0930 on weekdays.
