Bus operator Wilts & Dorset has gained the contract to operate the Park and Ride services during the Bournemouth Air Festival (19-22 August) for the 3rd consecutive year and will operate from 3 sites within the town at King’s Park, Bournemouth University and Littledown. Last year the park and ride service was used by over 35,000 people. This will be the first year of the festival that the company has not been the named sponsor.
Alex Carter, Managing Director of the Go Ahead Group of bus and coach companies in the south, confirms that Wilts & Dorset’s sister companies including Damory and Tourist Coaches, Bluestar in Hampshire and Southern Vectis on the Isle of Wight will provide drivers and extra buses to support the operation.
’We will use a fleet of 22 single and double deck buses for the Park and Ride and a team of 32 drivers,’ said Alex Carter. ’During the Air Festival we will also expect to see a significant rise in passenger numbers on our existing network.’
He said that the company has been working closely with police and authorities to ensure that buses have the ability to operate through the peak time traffic congestion.
Wilts & Dorset has also won the Bournemouth Council contract to provide a service between Boscombe bus station, Hawkwood Road car park and Boscombe Pier. This will run on Saturdays and Sundays until 29 August also daily between 16 - 20 August and on Bank Holiday Monday 30 August. The 500 service will run every 15 minutes between 10.00 am and 5.45pm.
