Rail Connections

The area in which Wilts & Dorset operates is blessed with excellent rail links to London, the West Country, the Midlands and northern England, however there are a number of towns in the region that are not on the main lines.

Wilts & Dorset works with South West Trains to make covering those last few miles easy and affordable. Through tickets are available from all National Rail stations to Swanage, Blandford Forum, Tidworth & Bulford and, of course the World Hertiage Site at Stonehenge.

For Stonehenge get the fascinating Stonehenge Tour from Salisbury station. Not only are through tickets available from your local station, as well as on the bus itself, but they also include entrance into the Stonehenge site itself as well as Old Sarum. Discounts are available for English Hertitage members and those not wishing to go into the site, but just enjoy the view from the top deck of our specially liveried double deck buses.

To get to Swanage you can leave the train at Bournemouth and get the spectacular route 50 over the Sandbanks ferry to Swanage. Buses leave Bournemouth station from stand A right outside the station entrance on the same side as the trains from London and the Midlands arrive. To see the current 50 timetable click here. If the times of the 50 don’t quite work for you or if you are travelling from Weymouth or Dorchester, you should check out our route 40 which calls very close to both Wareham and Poole stations

For Blandford Forum it is just as easy. Get off the train at Poole and leave the station on the same side as the London trains arrive and get the X8 at the bus stop across the main Holes Bay Road. For the latest X8 timetable click here.

Finally to reach the garrison towns of Tidworth and Bulford alight from the train at Andover. The stop for the ACTIV8 route is right outside the station. The route is jointly operated by Wilts & Dorset and Stagecoach. Your through rail ticket is valid on both companies’ buses.

There are plenty of other excellent bus links from local stations, although through tickets aren’t available yet.
